Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball has successfully been able to thrive and evolve for nearly four decades because of its captivating and courageous cast of characters, which is often headlined by Goku and his son, Gohan. Goku and Gohan both mature from humble and heroic children into some of the Earth’s greatest heroes. There’s a lot in common between Goku and Gohan, and it’s fair to say that Goku has set a strong example that his son has worked hard to follow.
These two frequently have each other’s backs on the battlefield, but their paths have gradually diverged and there are some major differences between these two. Goku and Gohan continue to represent peak strength in Dragon Ball. However, Goku possesses some essential skills that are lacking or completely absent in Gohan.
Goku becomes Dragon Ball’s inaugural Super Saiyan, but this prolific transformation sets a new baseline that becomes the series’ norm, rather than the pinnacle of power. Super Saiyan transformations have since become so commonplace that even children achieve this milestone. Gohan proves to be a natural in this regard and has the honor of being the first Saiyan to ascend to Super Saiyan 2 status. Unfortunately, this becomes the limit of Gohan’s Super Saiyan experience. Goku goes on to demonstrate that he’s mastered Super Saiyan 3 strength, which is also experienced by Gotenks.
