The overall story of My Hero Academia can be divided into three major sagas, with each covering a general phase of the narrative. The story began with the UA Beginnings saga, where anime fans met Deku and his classmates as they began their hero education. That saga involved some wake-up calls about how dangerous and scary real combat can be against true villains, and that went double for the anime’s second saga, the Rise of Villains saga.
The stakes rapidly rose in the Rise of Villains saga in the wake of All Might’s final battle against All For One, the feared symbol of evil. From that point forward, thousands of villains were ready to wagre war on hero society, including the remaining League members, the massive Meta Liberation Army, and the Shie Hassaikai criminal gang. That meant Deku and his classmates had to fight even harder against a rising tide of chaos and destruction as hero society slowly started to unravel, and there was no room for failure. 15 particular battles made it clear that the warmup days were over for class 1-A.
Shoto Todoroki’s battle against a handaful of Seijin students in the provisional hero license exam didn’t say much new about Shoto, so that fight ranks last among the most noteworthy battles in the Rise of Villains saga. Still, even if Shoto’s battle felt like business as usual, it still meant something for class 1-A’s most gifted student.
