The year’s most anticipated fantasy anime has been hit with a massive delay, and the franchise has shared a new statement explaining why to fans. With the Summer 2025 anime schedule coming to a close, it’s time to start looking ahead to the final new batch of releases coming in October as part of the Fall 2025 schedule. While many of the new releases have started to confirm their release dates and other crucial information, there was one particular anime series that fans have been hoping to get an update from as it was scheduled to release in 2025. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case.
The anime adaptation for Kamome Shirahama’s Witch Hat Atelier was previously slated for a 2025 release when it was first announced to be in the works, but some troubling reports behind the scenes seemed to tease the anime would not hit that 2025 window. Unfortunately, that has now been revealed to be the case as the team behind Witch Hat Atelier have shared an official statement confirming that the anime won’t be releasing until 2026 “in order to deliver the series with the highest possible quality and to fully showcase its charm.”
Witch Hat Atelier Anime Delayed Until 2026

“The TV anime ‘Witch Hat Atelier’ will have its broadcast schedule changed from 2025 to 2026 in order to deliver the series with the highest possible quality and to fully showcase its charm,” the official statement from Witch Hat Atelier‘s anime production staff began. “We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been looking forward to the broadcast. Our staff is working with the utmost dedication and care on the production. Further updates will be announced via the official team as soon as they are decided. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding.”
Although this is a rather huge delay for Witch Hat Atelier’s release, it is a good sign for the anime’s future. While it’s hard to gauge what this means for the production schedule behind the scenes, the statement indicates that the team is moving forward with the utmost quality in mind. This means that when the anime finally does make its premiere sometime next year, it’s likely going to be the best version of the adaptation as it could possibly be. It’s also the best time for a delay of this kind as it’s better to make this kind of schedule shift choice before it premieres rather than air one or two fantastic episodes then stalling any potential momentum (which is what happened to Bug Films’ last major release, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead).
Who’s Making the Witch Hat Atelier Anime?

Witch Hat Atelier’s new anime will be directed by Ayumu Watanabe (who is also directing the new Akane-banashi anime coming next year too) for Bug Films with Hiroaki Kojima producing, Kairi Unabara handling the character designs, and Yuka Kitamura composing the music. Though it now won’t be releasing until next year, the new series’ international streaming platforms have been confirmed.
Witch Hat Atelier will be exclusively streaming with Crunchyroll when it premieres for fans in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.
