Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami blew fans’ minds when it was announced that the mangaka would be returning to his supernatural world with a brand new manga. What was more surprising is that not only does it focus on the universe that made Yuji Itadori and Jujutsu Tech a household name for many anime fans, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo is a direct sequel to the events of the original story. While an anime adaptation for this new story is far from being confirmed, there are quite a few surprises in the new manga that are well worth covering.
Aliens!?!

While the original Jujutsu Kaisen had more than enough monstrous curses who could be mistaken for extraterrestrials, Modulo has decided to inject aliens directly into the manga’s veins. An alien race known as the Simurians has appeared on Earth in this future tale aboard a ship that houses 50,000 members of the species. With Inspector Marulu Val Vol Yelvori arriving on the scene as an alien in disguise, the supernatural are set to take on the extraterrestrial in a series that might be following in the footsteps of the likes of Slug. It’s a wild new approach that many didn’t see coming and immediately demands readers’ attention.
The Stars of the Series

The two new siblings of the series, Yuka and Tsurugi, might not be at the same power level as the likes of Yuji, Sukuna, and Gojo, but the premiere chapter shows that the pair can hold their own. Despite being siblings, the brother and sister don’t exactly get along that well, routinely getting into physical confrontations with one another. Despite their tumultuous relationship, the pair seem like worthy protagonists to live up the legacy left behind by Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and their grandparents. Speaking of their grandparents…
Yuta and Maki Are Yuka And Tsurugi’s Grandparents

In a surprising twist, taking place sixty-eight years following the defeat of Sukuna, Yuta and Maki are revealed to have forged a romantic bond with one another. Now that their grandchildren are the stars of the series, it leaves open the question of what happened to the original protagonists and whether they had offspring of their own. Considering how different Maki and Yuta were from one another, the pair settling down and starting a family is a wild curveball, but perhaps not as wild as their current status.
Yuta And Maki Are Dead

Taking place so long following the first series’ conclusion, Maki and Yuta apparently passed while Yuka was ten years old, with Maki dying first and Yuta eventually succumbing to the Grim Reaper as well. During Yuta’s funeral, one attendee stated, “Ever since Granny Maki passed away, he just seemed to be getting weaker by the day. Yuta wasn’t the only one. No one expected Maki to go first.” With both of these big supporting characters now gone, the brother and sister protagonists have some big shoes to fill.
The Aliens Rival Sukuna

In fighting against a malicious sorcerer, said antagonist explains to Tsurugi that aliens have arrived on Earth. As mentioned earlier, the Simurians have made their way to humanity’s abode, and they are nothing to sneeze at. As the chapter’s villain explains, they are on the same level as the King of Curses Sukuna: “The Inspector General’s declared the extraterrestrial invasion as a special grade incident on par with the attack by Ryomen Sukuna 68 years ago.” This might come as a big problem thanks to our next surprise in Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo.
Sorcerers Are Far Weaker Now

It’s a tough act to follow when comparing yourself to the powerhouses that were Yuji Itadori, Suguru Geto, Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, and the other primary fighters of Jujutsu Kaisenso it should come as no surprise that the latest generation isn’t up to snuff as of yet. With Tsurugi captured by the chapter’s main villain, said antagonist breaks down how the previous generation exceled during the season three storyline, The Culling Game, “I know you’re familiar with the Culling Game that occurred 68 years ago, which prompted the signing of the treaty. Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori put a stop to it, but do you know of anyone as extraordinary as them nowadays in Japan? When the world finds out how weak sorcerers have become, this shady new energy business will be over. The value of Japanese citizens will plummet, so with no way to make money, I gotta call it quits.”
Yuka And Tsurugi Will Fight Anytime, Anywhere

While it’s clear that the siblings have an affinity for one another, this doesn’t stop the two from routinely attempting to take down the other at the most inconvenient times. Before the final fight of the first chapter takes place, Tsurugi and Yuka go at one another for a brief round. It’s clear that Maki and Yuta had very different ideas about who should be the true successor of the family bloodline, and this fact is permeating throughout the sequel series.
