Adult Swim is bringing some big premieres to screens this October, and one is looking like a fun new series with the first trailer for Haha, You Clowns. If you have been paying attention to many of the SMALLS that have been released with Adult Swim over the years, you might have noticed how some of these shorts have been so successful that they have gotten their chance to become a full series. This includes Joe Cappa’s Haha, You Clownswhich follows three boys and their dad as they try and live their lives following the loss of their mother some time before.
Adult Swim has premiered plenty of cool new animated series through the year thus far, and that’s looking to continue with a new batch of shows coming this October. Haha, You Clowns already looks like one of the most unique yet as the animated series has demonstrated a much different vibe with its trailer than fans might have expected to see for an Adult Swim series. What Is Haha, You Clowns?
Originally premiering with Adult Swim as part of the SMALLS program, Haha, You Clowns is now making the jump to full series premiering with Adult Swim on Sunday, October 19th at 11:45ET before streaming with HBO Max the next day. Originally created by Joe Cappa, the animated series showcases three boys who are trying their best to keep a happy demeanor in the wake of their mother’s death. All the while their father is doing his best to stay strong for his boys, and the family will need to support one another in their life of wacky adventures.
As for what to expect from this brand new series, Adult Swim teases Haha, You Clowns as such, “Join the Campbell boys, three doting teenagers and their tenderhearted dad, as they live, laugh, love their way into your living rooms. They’re big dudes with big feelings who are learning to navigate life in the wake of their mother’s death, sensing her presence in everyday adventures.” And as fans might have seen with this trailer and previous shorts, there really is a unique vibe here throughout that Adult Swim has been playing around with more with its more recent releases.
Adult Swim Moves Towards Positivity
While some of the most memorable shows from Adult Swim’s leaned more towards cynicism, there are some new shows lately that have really started to go in the other direction. Choosing instead to live in a more genuine and heartfelt place for its comedy, shows like Royal Crackers, Women Wearing Shoulder Pads and even Smiling Friends have instead decided to really make the most of comedy that doesn’t really punch down and seeks to lift up instead.
Haha, You Clowns seems to be a more direct version of this idea as these boys clearly love their father, and there doesn’t seem to be a darker kind of rug pull planned when watching the series itself. It really is tackling the idea of a family trying to recover from a notable loss, and finding comedy within the sweet nature of its characters. That’s really going to make it stand out among the very packed (and competitive) Adult Swim library.
