Is the big “Reijo” wave ahead after the Isekai boom? At least on one of the leading manga platforms in the USA, a clear trend can be observed in this direction. We summarize.

“Reijo” title on the advance

Fantasy stories with the topics of “Isekai” or in general “other world” have established themselves on the American anime and manga market, just like in their home country of Japan. In the meantime, however, US readers tend to a new subgenre.

In Mangaplaza, one of the largest legal manga platforms in the United States, stories with the day »Reijo« (German: »Noble daughter«) are currently very popular. These mostly act from strong protagonists (“villain”) who act within a multi -layered social order.

These works often overlap with classic Isekai stories-for example when the heroine originally comes from another world.

According to Daichi Katsuki, the sales manager of Mangaplaza, “Hello, Nice to Meet You, Let’s get Divorced” by author Asagi Chiyoharu, with illustrations by Betty Nanasato, was one of the first “Reijo” titles that received great attention.

The success of this work has made a significant contribution to the fact that the offer of such stories on the platform had been significantly expanded.

Focus on readers

In the meantime, the catalog comprises over 250 titles, and the increasing enthusiasm for this subgenre was clearly noticeable-especially at the Anime Expo 2025, where numerous visitors in »Reijo« cosplays visited the stand of Mangaplaza.

Against this background, it is hardly surprising that “Reijo” works have been among the best-selling titles on Mangaplaza in the past few months and, especially for female readers-with a share of 90 %-enjoy great popularity.

At Mangaplaza, this development is pleased, since the company has invested considerable funds in expanding its offer for a female audience – an area that was previously only weakly represented in the United States. Three years after the start of this initiative, a significantly positive response can now be seen.
