Japanese character designer and animator Masashi Kudo recently spoke about how his interpretation of the character Orihime Inoue landed him the job on the “Bleach” production team. We summarize.

New job thanks to Orihime

In an interview with VIZ Media, Kudo said that anime producer Ken Hagino made him aware that the animation studio Pierrot was looking for a character designer for the adaptation of “Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War” and that applicants could submit their designs as part of a competition.

He finally decided to participate and made illustrations of Ichigo, Uryu and Orihime. Manga author Tite Kubo was particularly impressed by his portrayal of Orihime, which ultimately earned him a place in the team.

It’s hardly surprising that this illustration of all things convinced Kubo – after all, he had already made it clear several times how much he appreciated Orihime.

In the past, Kubo even took the opportunity to criticize those readers who criticized her supposedly “useless” role and instead wanted a romance between Ichigo Kurosaki and the energetic Rukia Kuchiki.

“Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War” so far comprises 40 episodes in three parts, which were released on Disney+ between October 2022 and December 2024. The fourth and final part is scheduled to start on Japanese television next year. A disc release of the series has been carried out by KSM Anime since August 2024.
