Beavis and Butt-Head has officially made its comeback with Season 3, and the premiere episode made a surprising change to Butt-Head after over 30 years of the animated series’ history. Beavis and Butt-Head is no stranger to revivals as following the end of its classic run with MTV, it was later revived with a second run with the network before finally coming back once more in our current era. And this current run of Beavis and Butt-Head has been doing so well that it’s now airing its third season with Comedy Central each week. Things kicked off with a bang. Naturally, SPOILERS for Beavis and Butt-Head’s Season 3 opener follow.

Beavis and Butt-Head isn’t the kind of series that pays a lot of attention to how the duo have hurt themselves over the years, but eagle-eyed fans will likely taken note of what has actually happened to them. There are a few things that the series has rarely done, and one of those changes actually happened in the Season 3 premiere as fans finally got to see what Butt-Head would look like without his braces. And as Butt-Head himself notes about the look, he’s “beautiful” with this new change.

Beavis and Butt-Head Season 3 premieres with two new adventures, one half featuring the younger versions of the duo and the second half of the episode featuring the older versions in the future. The first half of the episode features the biggest change for Butt-Head, however, as after the two end up biting into a caramel apple it gets stuck in Butt-Head’s mouth. Once Beavis knocks it out with a baseball bat, it’s soon revealed that it also completely knocked out Butt-Head’s braces. Which leads him to seeing just how “beautiful” he really is without them.

It’s naturally not long before Butt-Head goes too far with this new look as without his braces, Butt-Head starts to open his mouth in a very disturbing way. His full smile without them shows off a ton of his gums in the process, and he often licks his mouth now that it’s free of those braces. Hilariously, Butt-Head also starts to carry himself with the idea that he’s now too popular to hang out with Beavis, but it also becomes too much of a burden as Butt-Head soon gets his braces knocked back into his mouth by the end of the episodes.

One thing that fans of the classic version of the animated series appreciate about the new revival era is that Beavis and Butt-Head is not afraid of experimenting. It all kicked off by introducing both Old and Smart versions of the main duo to start telling new stories, and this premiere removing his braces for a bit showcases that Season 3 is going to strongly continue on that path. These characters are going to go through even more wacky adventures, but there are still new avenues to explore even after all this time.

Something as seemingly small as removing Butt-Head’s braces might not be a big deal on the outside, but it’s still a creative way to shake up this duo even after all these years and episodes. Because while introducing new versions of the characters already shook it all up, there’s still plenty to do with these iconic faces that fans might not expect.
