Three years after the release of the first season, Chainsaw Man is returning with a new installment, a movie adapting the next canon arc from the series. The film is currently playing in Japanese theaters and other Asian countries, receiving a somewhat decent reception. Arguably better than Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle in a movie format, this upcoming film adapts roughly 14 chapters from the manga.
With a new arc comes the introduction of new characters, while many fan favorites will also be returning. Based on the teasers revealed so far, here’s a look at all the major players featured in Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc that you need to know before watching.
10) Kobeni
One of the many returning characters in the upcoming movie is Kobeni, the Devil Hunter, whom fans often believe isn’t good at anything. Her presence in the first season clearly showed that she doesn’t want to work as a Devil Hunter but has no real choice, as the job offers a better salary than anywhere else.
The upcoming movie may not feature Kobeni in a major role. Still, fans can expect to see her in a minor one, possibly assisting Denji in his final confrontation against the main villain. Will she be of much help? Well, don’t count on it, but that remains to be seen.
9) Galgali
Speaking of assisting Denji in the final battle against the main villain of the upcoming movie, Galgali, the Violence Devil, who works for the Public Safety Division as a Devil Hunter, will also be returning. Galgali was introduced near the end of the first season, showcasing his impressive strength and powerful combat abilities.
The trailers have made it clear that Galgali will be part of the climactic final battle. While he isn’t a major player, much like Kobeni, fans can expect to see him in a humorous light, especially given his amusing personality. Perhaps this movie might also reveal the hidden reasons behind Galgali’s decision to become a Devil Hunter despite being a devil himself.
8) Kishibe
Kishibe was by far the most enigmatic character introduced in the first season of Chainsaw Manand he was also regarded as one of the strongest Devil Hunters. His involvement in the first season was limited but highly impactful, as he trained Denji and Power, helping them grow stronger. Although the teasers revealed so far don’t spotlight Kishibe, fans can still expect him to make an appearance.
Kishibe’s role in the first season also suggested that he doesn’t trust Makima. Perhaps his return in the upcoming movie will involve him revealing new information about Makima or providing insight into the main antagonist, as he is just as knowledgeable as he is powerful.
7) Angel
Angel will be another Devil Hunter featured in the upcoming movie, The Angel Devil. He was introduced in the final episodes of the first season, showcasing his terrifying ability to extract the lifespans of humans he touches and convert that energy into weapons.
Alongside Aki, he is shown to be heavily involved with Denji in the teasers released so far, confirming that fans will see him in action. With very little known about him, viewers can expect some revelations about his origins. However, the most intriguing aspect will be Aki and Angel’s dynamic, especially considering how Aki despises all devils in the Chainsaw Man series.
6) Power
Power has been part of the main trio in the first season of Chainsaw Manmaking her return in the upcoming movie inevitable. Fans can expect to see more of her chaotic dynamic with Denji as the duo continues their troublemaking antics. However, despite her confirmed presence, the trailers and teasers released so far haven’t given Power as much spotlight as fans might have hoped for.
This suggests that while Power will appear in the movie, she may not play a major role in the main action. Still, that doesn’t mean her character won’t see any development. As one of the core trio, Power’s own narrative could take shape in the upcoming film.
5) Beam
One of the most unexpected characters to gain attention in the teasers and trailers so far is the Shark Fiend, Beam, who was introduced alongside several others during the final episodes of the first season of Chainsaw Man. The movie’s promotional material features Denji riding Beam in his Shark Devil form as they charge into battle.
This suggests that Denji and Beam will be the two main characters confronting the primary villain of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. Fans can expect Beam to be introduced early in the movie and play a major role alongside Denji, possibly with some insight into his origin. So far, Beam’s involvement looks promising, and he might stand out as one of the key characters in the upcoming film.
4) Aki
Aki Hayakawa is clearly one of the main protagonists of the series, and his return in the upcoming movie is guaranteed. Aki remains one of the most compelling characters in Chainsaw Man and is on his way to becoming one of the strongest Devil Hunters. However, the revelation that he only has a few years left to live makes his journey even more intriguing.
While Aki will undoubtedly take part in the confrontation against the movie’s final boss, the trailers so far have shown that much of his involvement will be alongside Angel. Given Aki’s hatred for devils, it will be interesting to see his dynamic with Angel. Fans may also witness Aki’s continued pursuit of the Gun Devil for revenge, and since the Bomb Devil is closely associated with the Gun Devil, belonging to the same firearms category, Aki may gain a significant lead toward his goal in the upcoming film.
3) Makima
Makima, the leader of Public Safety Devil Hunter Division Four, was one of the most enigmatic characters introduced in the first season of the anime. Clearly manipulative, Makima has higher goals that remain unclear. Her intentions toward Denji, and perhaps everyone under her, seem to revolve around control and using them for her own benefit. The trailer further emphasizes this, showing that her so-called dates with Denji are merely schemes to tighten her hold on him.
While her manipulative nature was evident in the first season, she also shocked fans with the sheer power she possesses. The movie may delve deeper into her abilities and possibly reveal the Devil she is associated with. Even if she doesn’t reveal it directly, fans can count on Kishibe to possibly disclose something significant, given his wariness of her. In any case, Makima will return to the big screen, continuing to exploit Denji for her own gain.

Without a doubt, the center of attention for the upcoming installment will once again be Denji, the main hero of the Chainsaw Man series, whose life as a Devil Hunter with no grand ambitions continues. Having endured a rough childhood, Denji wants nothing more than to live a normal life and enjoy three meals a day. The first season more than fulfilled his desire for a simple life, and as humans tend to crave more after achieving one dream, Denji’s next goal is clear: finding a girlfriend.
Unfortunately, Denji’s desire for a girlfriend is what will push him into a new vortex, as Reze, the main antagonist of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arcexploits his feelings. The teasers have revealed that Denji is falling for Reze, even lamenting that every woman he meets tries to kill him. Could this latest encounter push Denji to realize something greater about life? We’ll find out on the big screen later this month.

Reze will be the sole focus of the upcoming movie as the titular antagonist, stealing the spotlight even more than Denji. The teaser has confirmed that Reze’s involvement will center on exploiting Denji’s feelings for her while secretly plotting to steal Chainsaw Man’s heart. It is also confirmed that Reze, much like Denji, is a human-devil hybrid, possessing the powers of the Bomb Devil and facing Denji in a bombastic battle.
Beyond this, little has been revealed about Reze. With her being the central focus of the movie, there is no doubt that fans will also learn the reasons behind her actions and her origins. While her involvement is sure to surprise viewers, it is clear that Reze will be Denji’s biggest threat yet in Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arcchallenging him not only physically but also emotionally. For fans of the series, it will be an experience worth witnessing on the big screen.
