The controversy insert song “Hunting Soul” from the second “Dan da Dan” season was probably removed from several streaming platforms in Japan-due to concerns about possible copyright infringement.
Further consequences?
We recently reported that the 18th episode of “Dan da Dan” was confronted with copyright allegations due to its insert song. Both the appearance and the fictional “Hayasii band” itself reminded great remind of the rock band “X Japan”-and on purpose, as was later confirmed.
Although the scene was intended as a homage, “X Japan” drummer Yoshiki on his X-account said that he had been contacted by lawyers-despite the fact that the rights to the original song “Kurenai” are located at Sony Music Publishing and “Dan Da Dan” is produced by their subsidiary Aniplex.
It actually seemed unlikely that further consequences followed, but now it turned out that several streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, either removed the title from their platforms or blocked for users from Japan.
The song is still available worldwide only on YouTube. The developments are surprising in any case, and it remains exciting to see which parties could face in the event of a lawsuit. In the meantime, nothing seems to be ruled out. Of course we will keep you informed.
The second season of the anime adaptation of “Dan Da Dan” has been running at ADN, Anverese, Crunchyroll and Netflix in the original Japanese version with German subtitles and with German synchronization in simulcast since July 4, 2025.
