Trigger warning: sexual abuse

Former NCT member Moon Tae-il, who was previously indicted without detention on charges of sexual assault, will face the court for his first trial.

On the 18th, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court announced that the first trial for Taeil and two others will be on May 12th. Taeil and his acquaintances allegedly raped an intoxicated female, and were indicted on quasi-rape charges under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

Tae-il was formally reported to the police in June 2024, summoned in August 2024, and was eventually sent to the prosecution without detention. The Seoul Bangbae Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for Tae-il and his acquaintances, but it was dismissed due to the grounds of personal admission to the crimes. As a result, Tae-il’s immediate exit from NCT was announced by SM Entertainment, and his exclusive contract was terminated in October 2024. Notably, Tae-il did not appear in front of the police for the questioning back in the initial stages of the investigation, allegedly due to “health reasons.”

Tae-il debuted as a member of NCT in 2016, under the sub-units NCT U and NCT 127. He was eventually expelled from the group, along with SM Entertainment’s official statement: Tae-il is currently being investigated by the prosecution due to a criminal case, which is not only grounds for termination under the exclusive contract, but also as we can no longer continue to trust him as an artist.
