A few days ago, the subtitles of the “Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show” summer restart provided great excitement. In the meantime, the crunchyroll streaming service has commented on this topic. We summarize.

Investigation initiated

As we have already reported, the German subtitles of the first episode of “Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show” contained several grammatical mistakes and content ambiguities that in no way correspond to the usual quality standards of Crunchyroll – but a line even took this to the extreme.

Because at the time of the time 19:12 minutes the words are “Chatgpt Said: If I can continue to enjoy the world from here” appeared what the origin of the questionable subtitles should probably explain. Chatgpt is a AI-based chatbot from Openai, which can also translate texts into other languages.

In the meantime, Crunchyroll has commented on several media and confirmed that the subtitles were produced by a third party. In addition, the delivery of AI generated subtitles would violate the guidelines, which is why the streaming service had initiated an investigation.

It remains to be seen how the results are, but in the whole dilemma there is of course the question of why Crunchyroll did not carry out a final quality control. The corresponding line of text has now been corrected.
