Bartosz Sztybor, author and producer of the Netflix anime “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”, has revealed his motives for the dark story of the series-and promised much more grief and suffering. We summarize.
“People in Poland are sad”
The corresponding statements fell as part of the “cyberpunk: Edgerunners” panels on the anime Expo, on which Sztybor admitted that it was his goal with the anime “To make the whole world sad”. His own origin and that of the video game developer CD Project Red also play a major role:
»Human stories are important for CD Project Red. We have developed› Cyberpunk 2077 ‹and want to write stories that are determined by characters. But the other thing is that we are a company from Poland. I come from Poland and the people here are sad. They are born sadly and die sadly, so I just wanted to make the whole world sad. “
In this context, Sztybor was finally asked whether he had ever occurred to write a happy action, where he immediately answered “No” and then completely bluntly explained his reasons for this: “Because when people are sad, I’m a little happy”.
But in addition to personal preferences, there was also some interesting information about the upcoming second »cyberpunk: Edgerunners« series. This should play in the same world as its predecessor, but should not continue. In addition, the new anime – who would have thought – should become even darker and sad.
