After turbulent weeks due to possible copyright violations, the makers of the “Dan da Dan” anime finally break their silence-and publish an official apology. We summarize.

No permission obtained

What was actually intended as a respectful homage developed into a huge controversy-there is of course talk of the insert song of the 18th “Dan Da Dan” episode, which alludes to the Japanese rock band “X Japan”.

Nowadays one could actually assume that it is generally known that the approval of the rights holders is required for such representations in advance. But after “X Japan” drummer Yoshiki had made the concerns of his lawyers public and several music streamers took the song out of their offer, it became clear that something could not be quite right here.

This has now also been confirmed in a contribution on the official X account of “Dan da Dan”. In it, the production committee at “X Japan” apologized and admitted that one had forgotten to clarify the matter in advance.

Sorry for the anime maker

The statement is literally: “We would like to sincerely apologize for making you worries through the song› Hunting Soul ‹from› Dan da Dan ‘.

The music piece was created by the entire production team with deep respect and admiration for Yoshiki and the band X Japan, with the aim of expressing their passion in anime. In addition, in its musical performance, it should correspond to the scenes and the story of ›Dan da Dan ‘and further increase the quality of the work.

However, we have to sincerely apologize that we did not provide sufficient information in Yoshiki and X Japan in advance and thereby triggered unnecessary concern. With regard to the rights, we have also started to conduct constructive conversations and cooperation with the responsible bodies.

We are already in direct exchange with Yoshiki, and we consider this as an opportunity to work together on creative initiatives for the future. «

The second season of the anime adaptation of “Dan Da Dan” has been running at ADN, Anverese, Crunchyroll and Netflix in the original Japanese version with German subtitles and with German synchronization in simulcast since July 4, 2025.
