Slug has gained success in record time, with its first two seasons slamming together extraterrestrials and the supernatural into one chaotic story. With the final episode of the second season ending this week, rounding out the total of installments to a cool twenty-four episodes total, Science SARU has wasted little time in confirming what the future holds for Momo and Okarun. News has arrived regarding the anime adaptation that is sure to turn a few heads while also confirming that Yukinobu Tatsu’s brainchild isn’t leaving the small screen anytime soon.
Slug has announced that a third season is in the works, with the production staff sharing a new image of Momo, Okarun, and the Turbo Granny to help ring in the occasion. While a release window for season three has yet to be confirmed, we have to imagine that anime fans won’t be waiting too long to see the ever-expanding cast of characters make a comeback. Even with The second season ending, the season finale ended with quite the bang as the main cast found themselves fighting against a kaiju. With the arrival of the giant beast, the anime has proven that the show can go anywhere while bringing in any sort of monster the story deems fit.
They are willing return
Season two of Slug focused on not just Momo and Okarun getting a better handle on their superpowers, but also brought in even more characters into their ranks. One of the main storylines of the series, the “Evil Eye Arc,” witnessed Jiji inheriting the spirit of the Evil Eye, granting him wild abilities but also seeing a malevolent spirit taking over his form. Luckily, despite the Evil Eye routinely causing problems, Okarun was able to increase his strength, presenting a big enough challenge to keep the ghost at bay. Jiji wasn’t the only character to leave an impression on the protagonist pair this season.
In the final storyline of season two, anime fans were introduced to the hilarious Kinta Sakata, an overweight, stoic character who was far more interested in winning girls’ affections than fighting evil spirits. Luckily, Kinta has actually proven to be an asset for the team, and we’re sure to see more of him in the upcoming third season. Luckily, the screen isn’t the only place you can witness the adventures of this oddball group of mismatched heroes.
The manga is still running in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, with creator Yukinobu Tatsu beginning the series in 2021 and releasing new chapters ever since. With series like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia already concluding, the story of Momo and Okarun has become a heavy hitter in the manga publication’s roster, spurned on by the widely received anime adaptation. Luckily, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on the events of the manga before season three arrives.
