Unlike her past work with WJSN, DaYoung was directly involved in every part of her solo release. She contributed to the songwriting, overall concept, and filming of the music video. This project highlights what she calls “Solo DaYoung,” a version of herself free from characters or filters, presented with honesty.
The album features the lead track, “body,” a pop-dance single driven by energetic beats and a catchy hook. The song captures the rush of love and emotion that comes before words, with DaYoung expressing this energy through her performance and movement. The music video, shot in Los Angeles, highlights her against the backdrop of the California sun, celebrating freedom and self-expression.
The release also includes “number one rockstar,” a guitar-driven anthem that highlights confidence and ambition, and “marry me,” a fun, rhythm-heavy track co-written by DaYoung. This song playfully states, “If I were you, I’d wanna marry me too,” giving listeners a peek into her humor and bold personality.
DaYoung’s career touches many parts of the entertainment industry. She first appeared on K-Pop Star Season 1 before debuting with WJSN under Starship Entertainment in 2016. Since then, she has been involved in projects like Y TEEN, collaborated with MONSTA X, and joined WJSN CHOCOME, which gained popularity for its bright and playful image. In addition to group activities, she has acted in dramas, contributed to OSTs, and released solo music, including “Love Wave” in 2024.
Her journey has involved resilience as well. In 2021, DaYoung took a temporary break after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. She returned to her work fierce, focused on deepening her artistry and connection with fans.
With gonna love me, right?, DaYoung takes her first major step as a soloist. This project underscores her commitment to originality and her goal to be seen not just as a kpop idol but as an independent artist in her own right.
