Every fan knew that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle would be a box office hit. But one question loomed large over Ufotable’s new Demon Slayer movie: can it beat Demon Slayer: Mugen Train‘s box office record? As Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle edges closer to that goal, it has smashed several other records along the way. With Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle now slowly being released across the globe, box office records keep getting set up, and Tanjiro and the Hashira keep knocking them down.
In its latest in a long line of victories, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle just passed 30 billion yen ($204 million) at the Japanese box office. The news was shared via the official Demon Slayer X (formerly Twitter) account, which revealed even more statistics regarding the film’s popularity. “In 52 days of release, it has been viewed by 22,007,405 attendees (with box office revenue of 314,259,169,00 yen) and has been enjoyed by a great many people,” read the post. That is already an impressive feat for a domestic box office haul. But if that wasn’t impressive enough, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has become the fastest film to ever reach that milestone at the Japanese box office.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Will Break Even More Records This Month
It’s safe to say that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been a big success for Aniplex and Ufotable. But the celebrations aren’t ready to stop yet. The film opened in Japanese theaters in July and has spent eight weeks at the number one spot at the domestic box office. However, it is still yet to reach many international territories.
US fans have just a few more days to wait until Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle reaches domestic shores on September 12th. The US, along with other major territories like South America and South Asia, are expected to send Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle‘s total box office take through the roof. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is currently the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time, having raked in over $500 million worldwide upon its release in 2020. In order to achieve that feat, the movie needs to more than match its domestic take at the international box office. However, given the insane popularity of Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga and Ufotable’s anime series, it’s a feat that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle can certainly achieve.
