
By opening an official website, it was announced today that the manga series “Diary of a Strange Land” (Japanese: “Ikoku Nikki”) receives an anime adaptation. You can find a first trailer and a visual below.
Start in January 2026
“Diary of a Strange Land” is being created under the direction of Miyuki Ooshiro (key animation at “Skip and Loafer”) in the studio Shuka. Kouhei Kiyasu (“My Home Hero”) wrote the script, while Kenji Hayama contributes the character design.
In the leading roles, Miyuki Sawashiro (Bishamon in »Noragami«) as Makio Koudai and Fuko Mori (Yuka Adachi in »Shinkalion: Change the World«) can be heard as ASA Takumi. The Drama series starts on Japanese television in January 2026.
The original manga series of the same name by Tomoko Yamashita was released from June 2017 to June 2023 in eleven volumes in Japan. So far, the work is neither available with German nor with English translation.

The 35-year-old author Makio Koudai spontaneously picks up her 15-year-old niece ASA after her sister’s death. The next day she regrets it because she is reluctant to do company. Now both have to learn to share their everyday life: ASA with an atypical adult and Makio with a roommate who challenges them.
