As part of an interview, the long-time “Dragon Ball” animator Chikashi Kubota recently spoke about gaps in the original story of Akira Toriyama and additional episodes. We summarize below.
Narrative gaps
At the “Made in Asia” expo in Brussels, Belgium, the X-user @vondbz was able to ask the animator Chikashi Kubota several questions. One of them was about whether he would like to encourage a scene that had not yet appeared in “Dragon Ball”. With his answer, Kubota indicated the possibility of future projects.
Because according to him there are many narrative gaps in the history of “Dragon Ball” that could be filled with an additional episode.
The TV special “Dragon Ball Z: Son-Goku’s father”, which deals with the events before Son Goku’s arrival on Earth and serves as “episode 0”, already showed that such episodes are also well received by fans.
Preliminary bridging
As a further concrete example of a narrative gap in the original story, he named the discovery of the triple super Saiyajins, which, according to him, would have to have occurred at some point during Son Gocus in the hereafter.
Kubota assumes that the realization of extensive new ideas due to the sudden death of “Dragon Ball” creator Akira Toriyama could be difficult in the next few years, which is why such original episodes would be a good opportunity to bridge this time.
What do you think of Kubota’s proposal? Would you like one or the other background story to get more attention? Maybe you even have a gap in action in mind? Let us know in the comments!
