Dragon Ball fans have been very concerned about the future of the franchise, and the producer behind it all has shared some very good news about the state of it all. Dragon Ball as a whole has been largely on a hiatus since the passing of original franchise creator Akira Toriyama. But even, fans got to see a brand new anime released with the debut of Dragon Ball Daima as it helped to fill in more of the gaps between the events of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. But is there still a potential for more even after the creator’s death?

That seems to be a possibility on the table as Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku revealed in a special interview for a Dragon Ball Daima information booklet released in Japan (as spotted by @Venixys on X) that the team is now “working hard to move various things forward” and promised that the Dragon Ball series will continue. While Iyoku is playing coy about what form this continuation will take, it’s still a very promising update for the future considering that there really hasn’t been anything revealed thus far.

Dragon Ball Producer Teases Dragon Ball’s Future

“Did you enjoy watching Dragon Ball Daima?” Iyoku began. “Following this work, of course, we are currently working hard to move things forward. The Dragon Ball series will continue from here on as well, so everyone, by all means, please continue looking forward to it.” While Iyoku has not revealed what this continuation or tease of a continuation could be for, it’s still a big move forward considering that it likely has been tough to navigate without Toriyama’s clear involvement in future projects.

The Dragon Ball franchise was put on hold as following Toriyama’s passing, there is now a bit of confusion over the rights for the franchise moving forward. Iyoku seems to be teasing that they are working on a continuation, and that likely might mean the anime as it’s going to be easier to continue that new chapters of Dragon Ball Super. Fans are more likely hoping to see more of the manga since it’s got some big cliffhangers to return to, but the easier path forward is likely more original anime releases.

Dragon Ball Daima Carved Out a New Path Forward

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Daima really opened the door as to how to continue Dragon Ball without Akira Toriyama. Much like how Dragon Ball GT was crafted without his involvement in the first place, Always was originally going to be the same kind of project. It changed once Toriyama got involved, but this is likely how the franchise is going to keep going. We’re going to see more original works featuring Dragon Ball’s characters at various points in the timeline. They might even just not even attempt to be a part of the canon.

Much like how Dragon Ball‘s anime films used to be, fans are already experienced with seeing Goku and Vegeta taking on certain battles not tied to anything else. Without Toriyama helping to guide it all into a single canon, Dragon Ball is likely going to move forward with its own original TV anime and movie stories. There are ten years between Dragon Ball’s Majin Buu arc and its finale, so that’s a big gap to play with too.
