
The opening of an official website today announced that the manga series »Mao« receives an anime adaptation. You can find a first teaser below.
Start in spring 2026
“Mao” is being built under the direction of director Teruo Satou (“Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon”) in the Sunrise studio and is expected to start on Japanese television in spring 2026. Yuuko Kakihara (»Tsukigakirei«) wrote the script, while Yoshihito Hishinuma (»Inuyasha«) contributes the character design.
In the main roles of the Japanese cast, Yuuki Kaji (Eren Yeager in “Attack on Titan”) can be heard as Mao and Natsumi Kawaida (Himari Momochi in “The Demon Prince”) as Nanoka Kiba. Hiro Shimono (Dabi in “My Hero Academia”) Set up Hyakka.
The original manga series of the same name comes from “Ranma 1/2” author Rumiko Takahashi and has been published in the “Weekly Shounen Sunday” magazine since May 2019. The work is available by Viz Media with English translation.

Nanoka travels through a portal into the Taisho period and is saved there by the exorcist Mao. Back in the present, she discovers new forces and returns to the past in search of answers.
