How Strong Is Kikoru Shinomiya in Kaiju No. 8?

Kaiju No. 8 has thus far had a good showing when it comes to female characters. Mina Ashiro isn’t just a powerful character, but she’s an influential one, too. She holds both political sway, and she was the inspiration for many of the recruits to join the Defense Force. Even though Ashiro wasn’t the reason Kikoru Shinomiya joined the Defense Force, Kikoru still looks up to Ashiro. The two of them have a lot in common. Both of them are power houses and prodigies. Both of them care deeply about their mission, too.
Kikoru Shinomiya is the strongest of the recruits in Kafka Hibino’s batch. She blows all of her competition out of the water and just continues to grow stronger. She’s capable of great feats. However, Kikoru is a character with a lot of depth. From her complicated backstory regarding her parents, to her dedication to her comrades, she’s always interesting to have on screen. Despite her arrogance, Kikoru is predominantly kind and one of the best people to have as an ally.
The Third Division recruits in Kafka’s year almost all have some background in the military or in anti-Kaiju academies. All of those that passed the exam are proven to be strong individuals. Kikoru stands head and shoulders above all of them. At age sixteen, she graduated from the California Neutralization Academy. She excelled in a seemingly acclaimed school. In the world of Kaiju No. 8, people seemingly don’t go to academies until after they’ve graduated from regular schooling.
