Investors in Asia nervous ahead of US inflation data

Frankfurt, Tokyo A strong US dollar, the upcoming US inflation data and the instability of the British bond market pushed the stock exchanges in Asia into the red on Wednesday. “Inflation is already high in the UK and the Kwarteng fiscal policy package is likely to push it higher still,” said Damien Boey of Barrenjoey in Sydney.

The Nikkei index, which comprises 225 values, was 0.1 percent lower at 26,364 points. The broader Topix index was unchanged at 1871 points. The Shanghai stock exchange was down 1.1 percent. The index of the most important companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen lost 1.2 percent.
