JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run is one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming anime. The anime will be an adaptation of the seventh part of the long-running JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga, serving as a direct follow-up to the Stone Ocean anime, which ran from 2021 to 2022. Steel Ball Run is often regarded as the franchise’s most acclaimed part, featuring inventive fights, an interesting setting, and memorable characters. David Production, which has produced the previous JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure parts, officially announced it is working on the Steel Ball Run anime at Anime Expo 2025. However, the company didn’t announce which streaming service the new series will premiere on overseas.

Netflix has now confirmed Steel Ball Run will be streaming worldwide on its service, releasing a trailer with the Netflix logo. No official release date was given besides “Coming Soon” on Netflix. Fans and observers are expecting more news to come with the upcoming JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure livestream on September 23rd. This news isn’t surprising, given that Netflix holds the global streaming rights for Stone Ocean. Netflix hasn’t confirmed how it plans to release the upcoming anime, which has drawn some concerns from fans and critics.

Why Are Fans Worried About Steel Ball Run’s Streaming Home?

Netflix is arguably the largest streaming platform globally, with millions of active viewers at any given time. With such a large user base, the assumption is that most fans would be grateful for a company as big as Netflix to stream JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure on its platform. However, fans and critics have been critical of how Netflix handled the release schedule of the franchise in the past. The streaming program follows a bulk release schedule, either releasing the entire series all at once or a chunk of episodes at a time. Netflix rarely releases series weekly, usually forcing users to wait until a show finishes airing before it can premiere on streaming.

Netflix’s standard release schedule goes against most other methods of release, which follow a weekly release schedule. Services like Crunchyroll offer same-day streaming of some of its biggest titles as they are released in Japan. This method shortens the wait between airdate and streaming, allowing viewers to consume a show as quickly as possible. In contrast, Netflix forces customers to hold up until the company decides to release episodes in bulk. Although Netflix’s release method is valid, the anime community has been vocally opposed to this method when it comes to anime, as following a series on a weekly schedule extends the conversation period and allows the property to stay in the minds of the general public.

Furthermore, many fans don’t believe that Netflix advertises new anime series as thoroughly as other titles. Many found the Stone Ocean release schedule on Netflix to be confusing and inconsistent, with the company failing to keep the general audience aware when to expect the next batches of episodes. Nevertheless, Netflix is likely one of the most convenient ways to stream, with most households having a Netflix subscription. Watchers hope that the company will improve its release method and advertise Steel Ball Run better than it did with Stone Ocean.
