Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga!

Gege Akutami’s Weekly Shonen Jump hit, Jujutsu Kaisenreached its conclusion last year after the defeat of Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. The manga was serialized for six years and quickly became one of the most famous new-generation shonen series. While the main story concluded in 2024, the anime is getting ready to release its Season 3 in Winter 2026. As fans are still awaiting a new anime season, no one could’ve expected that Akutami would suddenly release a sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. It’s a short manga illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki and expected to run for six months before concluding.

The sequel is being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, the same magazine as Jujutsu Kaisenand it’s already causing quite a lot of buzz. The story is set in the year 2086, where the Culling Games are just a tragic incident of the past. 68 years have passed since then, but the world is still far from peaceful, as curse spirits and curse users continue to haunt the people to this day. The most surprising part is that the series has introduced an alien race called Simurians, as 50,000 of them have invaded the planet as refugees. They are blending with the Jujutsu society quite easily since they share similar powers. The story begins with the deaths of two beloved characters, and no doubt there are going to be more in the future.

Since the epilogue had already introduced us to Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren, one of whom bore a striking similarity to Maki Zenin, it didn’t take long for fans to realize that one of the series’ most famous ships became canon. Modulo confirms that Yuta and Maki were indeed married, and they died one after the other. At some point, Maki passed away due to old age, and after losing her, Yuta lost all his energy and died as well. Maki’s death came as a shock to everyone since no one expected her to die before Yuta.

Yuta died when Yuka, his granddaughter, was ten years old, around 62 years after the Culling Game. In a profession where people are used to dying at a young age, Jujutsu Kaisen’s power couple led fulfilling lives and grew old together. This is already the best possible outcome for the two of them, but it’s unclear what became of the others. Since the story takes place almost seven decades after the Culling Game, most of them are likely too old or have died before the main story began.
