The highly anticipated Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 will premiere in January 2026, and it’s going to be the most intense arc so far. The trailer was released during the anime’s fifth anniversary, and it’s still creating a lot of buzz as anticipation grows higher. Manga readers are aware of the major plotlines being covered in the trailer, and they are going to be incredible. The Jujutsu world will never be the same after the tragedy of the Shibuya Incident, with Kenjaku and Sukuna playing key roles in it. We will finally see the aftermath of the brutal Shibuya Incident Arc as Gojo’s students not only have to deal with new threats but also find a way to rescue him. Kenjaku’s plan is in motion, and he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
Furthermore, we will not only see Yuta Okkotsu’s role in the main story, but also get introduced to several new characters. Before the Culling Game begins, the series will adapt the Itadori’s Extermination and Perfect Preparation Arcs, focusing on the struggles of Gojo’s students. The latest trailer highlights some of the key moments in the first two arcs instead of focusing on the Culling Game. The Culling Game is the second final arc of the series, right before the epic battle against Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. However, while fans are anticipating the upcoming season, MAPPA is dealing with the same production issues as the previous season.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 May Be Facing the Same Production Issues as Season 2
The trailer was amazing, to say the least, with a lot of the major scenes in Itadori’s Extermination and the Perfect Preparation Arcs being covered without spoiling too much. The fight scenes are especially thrilling, which is to be expected from MAPPA, which often delivers some of the best fight choreography in the industry. However, if you compare it with the trailers of the previous seasons, the difference is painfully clear.
A lot of the scenes are slow-paced, focusing more on dialogue rather than transitions. However, the worst part was the scene with Yuki standing in front of Gojo’s students and Choso being behind her. One look at the image, and you can easily tell it’s simply a rough draft put in the trailer, obviously because of time constraints.
You can also look at the numbers in the frame, which just proves it’s an unfinished version. While at first glance, it may not seem like a big deal, it does prove that the animators weren’t able to finish it on time due to time constraints or overworking. It’s been two years since Season 2 was released, but the production issues continue to be a problem in one of the biggest animation studios in Japan. With only a few months left till the release, the chances of the issue being resolved are next to none.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Has to Cover More Chapters Than the Previous Seasons
Season 3 is also facing a major challenge of adapting more chapters than the previous two seasons. The first season adapted a total of 68 chapters at a steady pace, and the studio was even able to produce the fan-favorite Juju Scrolls. Season 2 covered 73 chapters in only two arcs, and it had one fewer episode compared to the first season. It was obvious that the pacing was high, and MAPPA worked wonderfully to streamline the chaotic situation in Shibuya to avoid causing confusion to the viewers.
However, if Season 3 adapts the entire Culling Game Arc along with Itadori’s Extermination and Perfect Preparation, then we are looking at 85 chapters being squeezed into just one season. Although the episode count hasn’t been revealed, it will likely follow the standard format of 24-26 episodes. With that in mind, the pressure on the animators is a lot more than in the previous two seasons, which further proves that there is a major chance of production being an issue.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Had One of the Worst Production Meltdowns in the Industry
The Japanese anime industry is known for tight deadlines and being understaffed, which often results in the animators being overworked and failing to create a healthy work-life balance. The issue has grown significantly over the years, with the rising popularity of the anime industry across the globe. While this issue is common in a lot of studios, it is most prominent in MAPPA, since it is often in the spotlight for being one of the biggest studios in the country.
The production meltdown caused controversy throughout the run of the Shibuya Incident Arc, with many animators talking about being overworked on social media. The episodes were often completed at the last minute, since some of the preview stills, which were revealed a day before the episode’s release, were delayed by a few hours. Fans were well aware of the issue, and their dissatisfaction was only directed towards the studio for putting so much burden on the animators.
However, despite the challenges, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 managed to become one of the best anime of 2025, winning several awards at Crunchyroll. We can’t expect anything less from the upcoming season, although it will be difficult for the people working behind the scenes. While the possibility of Season 3 facing production issues is high, MAPPA has many hardworking animators who will make the season worth our while.
