Kengan Ashura is adapted from the manga of the same name, written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. The original manga was serialized between 2012 and 2018 through Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday digital platform. Following the conclusion of the initial series, a direct sequel titled Omega’s hands launched in 2019, continuing the story with both returning and new characters. Omega’s hands is still ongoing.

The anime adaptation was produced by LARX Entertainment, which handled both seasons of the series. The first season premiered on Netflix in 2019, split into two parts consisting of 12 episodes each. Directed by Seiji Kishi, the adaptation featured character designs by Kazuaki Morita, while Makoto Uezu managed the series composition. Yasuharu Takanashi composed the music.

Season 2 debuted in September 2023, beginning with a 12-episode first part that covered the initial stages of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. The second part, which covers the tournament’s climax and conclusion, premiered globally on Netflix in 2024. It will now make its terrestrial TV debut in Japan starting September 2025.

Netflix describes the story:

In addition to the main series, Netflix also streams the crossover movie Hanma Vs Kengan Ashura Traywhich brings together characters from Kengan Ashura and the Mouth franchise for a special crossover event.
