King of the Hill introduced a few new characters to the mix with the premiere of its new revival series earlier this Summer, and the next season of the reboot era really needs more of its best new character. King of the Hill returned with a whole new kind of look as this new Hulu era of the series takes place nearly a decade’s worth of time from the events of the original series. Hank and the others are now much older, and are now at much different stages of their lives compared to when fans saw them last during the original series run.
This not only opened up the opportunities to showcase new careers and settings for Bobby Hill now that he’s become an adult, but also opened up room for some great new characters like Emilio. This new addition to the series was introduced as the Sous Chef working alongside Bobby at Robata Chane, and he’s really the best new debut in King of the Hill‘s revival because the creative team really made the most out of his screen time with each of his appearances. Now we just need much more.
King of the Hill Needs More of Emilio in Season 15

King of the Hill has yet to officially announce it’s going to return for Season 15 of the series with Hulu, but it’s highly likely that it’s going to return given that the revival has been one of the most successful animated series releases for the streaming service in many years. Helping matters in this regard is just how much of the new era of the franchise fits right in with the classic run of the series. Each of the new additions seen feel like they fit right into the classic crew, but the main issue with these new faces is that we just need more time.
Standouts also include Brian Robertson, but he’s just not in the mix enough to really make his stamp yet. That’s not the case for Emilio who has already carved out a place in Bobby’s life. He’s not only an important colleague in the work place to bounce those adult troubles off of, but he’s proven to be a very close friend for Bobby as well. We’ve seen Bobby talk out these very important beats with Emilio, and Emilio has shown nothing but support. In episodes like “Bobby Gets Grilled,” Emilio is able to talk Bobby towards his best path forward because of that belief in him.
Why Emilio Is So Special

He not only helps Bobby in the workplace, but he’s also importantly another friend Bobby can rely on. The major shift in Bobby’s life meant that his friend circle drastically shrunk, but Emilio helps to fill those gaps in a very emotional way too. When Bobby is wondering whether or not he can pursue a relationship with Connie, Emilio outright tells him “I believe in you, Bobby” after helping him figure out how to send texts to her. He also gets to have some observations that the others don’t like with his take on Speedy Gonzales.
Emilio’s presence in the series works two functions. He helps to fill out the non-white character cast of the new King of the Hill era (something that has been important to the creative team for this new era specifically), but is a support system in Bobby’s life that he doesn’t really have in Dallas. Emilio is a very important character for King of the Hill’s revival, but we need more time with him. There’s so much that we don’t know about Emilio yet, and Anthony “Citric” Campos has such a fun delivery with his lines that there’s no doubt he’d absolutely nail a longer story for Emilio. We just need more of him to fully explore that potential.
