Major Japanese literary and manga publisher Kodansha recently announced a new project aimed at overseas manga creators called Kodansha Manga Academy. We summarize.

Foreign mangaka in focus

After the enormous shortage of Japanese mangaka prompted the publishing giant KADOKAWA to increasingly shift its focus abroad a few weeks ago, another heavyweight in the industry is now following this example.

Kodansha has now introduced the “Kodansha Manga Academy” – a program for aspiring and experienced manga artists outside of Japan. This is intended to help you act as an author, work with an editor, present your work and finally publish it on Kodansha after approval.

The official website also features commentary from famous manga artists such as Hajime Isayama (“Attack on Titan”), Makoto Yukimura (“Vinland Saga”), Peach-Pit (“Shugo Chara!”), Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura (“Blue Lock”).

A global manga award has also been announced for the beginning of 2026 – but so far without further details.
