Lambsdorff on the state of war in annexed areas: Putin’s weakness news
BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The FDP foreign politician Alexander Graf Lambsdorff holds the Kremlin boss Wladimir Putin declared a state of war in the recently annexed Ukrainian territories for “another sign of weakness”. Lambsdorff told the Welt television station on Wednesday: “This simply shows that he wants to expand his grip with administrative means where he threatens to slip away with military means.” He thinks the consequences for the population are probably manageable.
Martial law will mean extended powers for the Russian occupation administrations in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions. In addition, residents can now go to work in the defense industry forced or prevented from traveling. After several sham referendums, Putin had the areas annexed in violation of international law at the end of September. The step is not recognized internationally.
The West should stand by its line of supporting Ukraine, said Lambsdorff. Further deliveries of weapons from Germany are urgently needed in view of the recent drone attacks. “We now have to strengthen Ukraine in terms of air defense,” said the FDP politician./vrb/DP/men
