“Dan Da Dan” is without any doubt known for his allusions and homes to other anime franchises and various brands, but after the latest episode, the popular series is now confronted with the accusation of a copyright infringement. We summarize.

Contacted by lawyers

In episode 18, the fictional »Hayasii band« appeared, consisting of Toshiro (bass), Yoshikichi (drums), Hideji (vocals) and Patarson (guitar). They played the song “Hunting Soul”, which was clearly intended as a tribute to the Japanese rock band X Japan – both in the staging of the appearance and in the allusions to the names of the (former) band members Toshi, Yoshiki, Hide and Pata.

Apparently, this also noticed the lawyers of the musicians who, after the broadcast, had contacted drummer Yoshiki, as he himself reported in a number of posts on the social network X (formerly Twitter):

“What is it … does it not sound like” X Japan “? Huh? I don’t know anything about it. Is that okay? My dear fans, please tell me what’s going on here.

When I found out about it for the first time, I found it somehow funny and laughed, but then I was contacted by lawyers. You said that there is a possibility of copyright infringement, so I wonder what will happen? Everyone should know that with such things you should first contact the relevant people. “

Legal dispute unlikely

In his contribution, he also warned the X accounts of the two streaming services Netflix and Hulu, who are responsible for the publication of the anime series and also shared the video of an X-Japan performance of the song “Kurenai” from twelve years ago, which in his opinion could have served as a reference for the scene.

In the meantime, Marty Friedmann, who, together with Seichi Nagai, confirmed for the guitar parts and the arrangement of the “Dan da Dan” songs that this was a respectful appreciation of X Japan.

Overall, however, the whole vertebrae should hardly have any greater consequences and may even be staged, because the copyright of the song “Kurenai” are involved in Sony Music Publishing and its subsidiary Aniplex is involved in the production of “Dan da Dan”. So Sony will hardly sue itself.

The video of the anime performance as well as the reference appearance of X Japan can be found under these lines. Let us know your opinion!

The second season of the anime adaptation of “Dan Da Dan” has been running at ADN, Anverese, Crunchyroll and Netflix in the original Japanese version with German subtitles and with German synchronization in simulcast since July 4, 2025.
