Just yesterday we reported that Netflix was having a new German dubbing made for the anime classic “One Piece”. The first changes to the new soundtrack are now known. We summarize.
New names, familiar voices
On his YouTube channel NinotakuTV, Nino Guy, who is working as an expert and consultant on the new dubbed version, explained that, for example, the main character Monkey D. Luffy will now be called Monkey D. Luffy – just like in the original.
In addition, Usopp now goes by Usopp, Roronoa Zoro was renamed Roronoa Zoro, Tony Chopper now has the name Tonytony Chopper, Red Shanks will now be called Redhair Shanks and Miss Bloody-Sunday is now called Miss All Sunday.
The approximately 150 other adjustments in the early sections of the story also include changed attack names such as Super Soaker, which is now called Water-Water Pistol, and Gum-Gum-Kalashnikov, which has been renamed Gum-Gum-Gatling.
According to Kerl, the changes were made based on specifications from the licensors in Japan. However, the voices of the main characters remain familiar: all of the current voice actors of the Straw Hat Pirates also appear again in the new German dubbed version.
Netflix will release the first 16 episodes of the “East Blue” saga on November 15, 2025 in the HD remaster version, in which the original 4:3 picture has been adapted to the 16:9 format. Episodes 17 to 31 are expected to be available from December 15, 2025 and episodes 32 to 61 from January 15, 2026.
