The worlds of video games and anime go together like peanut butter and chocolate. There have been countless examples of game series receiving their own anime adaptations, including the likes of Pokemon, Persona, Castlevaniaand too many others to count. On the flip side, major anime franchises such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, My Hero Academiaand Jujutsu Kaisen have all received video games based on their properties. In a big new update, one of the most successful role-playing game franchises has dropped a new look at its upcoming anime, along with its cast list.
Suikoden: The Anime was announced earlier this year to arrive in 2026, and while the anime adaptation might just be titled “Suikoden,” it plans on translating the events of the second game of the series. Focusing on two childhood friends in Riliu and Jowy, the original story saw the duo split down the middle thanks to a war engulfing their world. Along with fresh visuals hinting at what is to come, the Suikoden franchise confirmed the voice actors set to play each character, along with commentary for each actor bringing their role to life. You can check out the new visuals and character breakdowns below.
Toshiki Kumagai as Riliu
In response to the casting announcement, Toshiki Kumagai (who fans might know best for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War) stated, “I am extremely honored to be involved in a work with such a long history that has been loved by so many people for so many years. Riliu is a very charming character with a straightforward and kind heart, yet a strong core within him. I will approach the work with sincerity and do my best to play the role in a way that lives up to Riliu! I am also very much looking forward to seeing how the fascinating world of “Suikoden II“ will be portrayed in the anime!!”
Shinba Tsuchiya as Jowy
Shinba, who fans might know for his roles in Gundam, Pokemon, Bleach: Burn The Witchand HaiKyusaid the following about his Suikoden character, “I will never forget the joy I felt when I passed the audition. I am still incredibly happy! At the same time, I feel humbled to be taking part in an animated series that has been loved by so many people for so many years. I will do my best to portray the charm of the honest and compassionate character Jowy vividly and carefully!”
Ayumi hinohara as nanami
Playing the lead female protagonist of the series, Ayumi Hinohara (A musume: Pretty derby) was ecstatic to join the anime cast, “I am truly happy to be involved in the world of “Genso Suikoden,” which has been loved for so long. This work leaves a deep impression on the heart, as it makes you feel the warmth of the people amidst the constant conflict and makes you think about what each of them wants to protect. I instantly fell in love with Nanami, a tomboyish girl who cares about her family, when she first appeared in the game. I will cherish each day with her so that everyone will love her too. I hope this story reaches as many people as possible.”
Katsuyuki Konishi as Viktor
Katsuyuki Konishi (Demon Slayer, Gachiakuta, Bleach), who plays the part of the powerhouse Viktor, shared his thoughts on joining the series having played the original series, “When I was little, I loved the game “Genso Suikoden” and played it a lot, and I wondered why it hadn’t been made into an anime, even though it was so much fun. And now, as time has passed, it has been made into an anime, and I’m so grateful that I was able to be involved in the anime thanks to my connections with the audio dramas I recorded for Genso Suikoden! I’m already looking forward to the anime! If you haven’t played it yet, I urge you to give Genso Suikoden a try! You’ll be amazed at the game!”
Yuichi Nakamura as flick
Ironically enough, this isn’t the first time that voice actor Yuichi Nakamura has played the stalwart Flick of Suikoden 2 fame. In his comments, Nakamura was happy to return to the role, “I played Flick in a drama CD a long time ago, and now I’ll be playing him again after 17 years (?!)! …However, the last time was a drama CD. This time it’s animation, so it will be the first time, both as an actor and as a game user, that I’ll meet Flick, Victor, and the others in action…! What kind of expressions will they show, and what kind of story awaits us? Just like everyone else, I have many questions, such as, will the remaining 108 characters really appear…?? But for now, let’s celebrate this opportunity and look forward to the broadcast!”
