Right in time for the spooky season, Disney+ has unleashed the most terrifying characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Zombies has transformed some of the biggest Marvel characters into the undead with the likes of Captain America, Hawkeye, Namor, Scarlet Witch, and more wanting nothing more than to feast on human flesh. In a wild series of events, the Incredible Hulk has become one of the strongest beings in this new universe and it’s not thanks to being bitten by a walking corpse. Marvel Zombies has changed the game for Bruce Banner and we’re more than happy to explain what happened.

Warning. If you have yet to watch Marvel Zombiesbe forewarned that we’ll be diving into serious spoiler territory for the animated series. Most of the latest animated series takes place five years after the events of What If…?the show that introduced Marvel’s undead to the small screen. Despite taking place in an apocalyptic future, the story was more than willing to revisit the past to touch upon where we last left the Marvel Zombies in the previous series. In fighting against Thanos, who is now a zombie, Black Panther sacrifices his life to destroy the Mad Titan and the Infinity Gauntlet he wielded. Unfortunately, the route T’Challa took threatened not only Wakanda, but the world at large. Enter Bruce Banner.

The Infinity Hulk

When last we left the Hulk during the Marvel Zombies episode of What If…?he was fighting against the Queen of the Dead, aka the Scarlet Witch. In an effort to contain the energies released by the destruction of the Infinity Gauntlet, Bruce Banner absorbed all of the power that might have destroyed the world. In doing this, a brand new iteration of the Green Goliath was born, fit to bursting with all-powerful energy that created an “Infinity Hulk.” No longer rampaging across the countryside and/or teaming up with the Avengers, Banner is now safeguarding his energy from the undead. Still, unfortunately, despite his new power, things go from bad to worse for the Hulk.

In the final episode of Marvel ZombiesScarlet Witch wants to absorb the power that the Hulk garnered to remake the world, and thanks to her current status as the Queen of the Dead, this is bad news for the heroes. Led by Miss Marvel, the remaining heroes attempt to stop Wanda from touching Bruce Banner but lose nearly the entirety of their forces in an effort to stop her advance. Wanda gets her wish to cap off the recent season, absorbing the power of the “Infinity Hulk” and seemingly recreating the universe to an earlier, less zombie-filled world. While not confirmed for a second season, there are certain story elements that hint that this might not be the end for the Marvel Zombieswhich is bad news for Kamala Khan and those who survived the undead world.
