The story of NERV remains one of the most legendary in the anime space, with many animation enthusiasts still considering Neon Genesis Evangelion their favorite example of the medium to this day. Celebrating thirty years of history since Shinji Ikari and his comrades first stepped into their robots, the Hideaki Anno creation is preparing to give fans something big to recollect the battle for Earth’s future. Previously, Evangelion confirmed that it would open a special exhibit to ring in the occasion, but this recent news is far more fitting for the anime’s original debut.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is returning to broadcast television in Japan, as the original anime will arrive on Television Kanagawa on October 3rd. On October 4th, the original series will air on Japanese networks Television Hokkaido and Television Shizuoka. From here, the original anime episodes will arrive on local stations as well, but that’s not all. The celebration will also air an original program from this October to next March 2026 titled “FM EVA 30.0.” In this new special, creators, singers, and voice actors who all took part in the series will share their thoughts, stories about the behind-the-scenes creation of the anime, and even fan-animated original tales that are based on their experiences with the series.

As previously mentioned, Evangelion is planning to open its own exhibit dubbed “All of Evangelion” this November, planning to keep the location’s doors open until January of next year. The exhibition won’t just feature original art from the anime production but will create a wild setting for anime enthusiasts to revisit the series. The official website for the event describes some of the wild elements as such: “The exhibition begins with an impressive photo spot at the entrance, featuring a large figure of Evangelion Unit-01. It then moves on to an unprecedented display of production materials from the actual broadcast footage, including the settings for the TV anime that is the origin of the series and original drawings from the new movie series, offering a glimpse into how the spectacular worldview was created.”

Also exclusive to Japan, many of the Evangelion films will be returning to theaters under the banner, “Monthly Eva EVANGELION 30th MOVIE Fest. 2025-2026.” Set to bring back the Rebuild of Evangelion quartet series to the silver screen, this event has, unfortunately, yet to be confirmed for North America. Fingers crossed that we might see NERV hit Western theaters to celebrate thirty years of mechs versus angels.

In the past, Hideaki Anno has released no plans of continuing the story of NERV, though he did previously hint at the franchise making a comeback. In 2024, Anno confirmed in an interview that there was work being done in the background for a potential new series, but details on this Evangelion project remain a mystery. With both the original series and the recent movies having conclusive endings, it will be interesting to see what route this potential anime will take.
