Last week, representatives of the two streaming platforms Netflix and Crunchyroll met with several Korean publishers to find the potentially next big webtoon hit. We summarize.
Meeting with Korean publishers
The anime implementation of “Solo Leveling” delighted anime fans worldwide and won numerous prizes. Therefore, it is not surprising that the interests of the producers are now increasingly focused on the origin of the work – a Korean web Tion that previously appeared as a weaving novel.
In search of the next success title, Crunchyroll and Netflix took part in the B2B and B2C fair “K-Story & Comics in America”, which took place in Los Angeles this year from July 30th to August 3.
In discussions with the South Korean webtoon publishers Ridi and KW Books, the two video-on-demand providers are said to have received exclusive offers, according to the Korea Creative Creative Creative Agency (KCCA), which the event organizes the event once a year.
More adaptations of web toons
Other well -known Korean companies such as Donutpeach, DcCent, Vivravo, Ylab Earth, Kenaz, Takeone Studio, Torycoms and Toyou’s Dream were also represented and presented their most important titles to initiate potential future partnerships. In addition, topics such as joint project planning, investments and production cooperations were the focus of the discussions.
While Crunchyroll is primarily aimed at new anime adaptations, Netflix could increasingly consider live action adaptations in view of the continuing success of K dramas on the platform-the announcement of a real adaptation of »Solo Leveling« speaks a significant language.
As soon as there are the first details of the possible deals of the two streaming giants, you will of course find out here from us. In the meantime, you can write to us in the comments which webtoon you would like to see animated.
