The streaming service Netflix announced today that the anime adaptation of “The Summer Hikaru Died” (Japanese: “Hikaru Ga Shinda Natsu”) starts on July 5, 2025 in Simulcast. You can see a new trailer below.
Opening presented
“The Summer Hikaru Died”, under the direction of Ryouhei Takeshita (“Eromanga Sensei”), who also writes the script, is produced in the studio cygamespictures. Yuuichi Takahashi (“Muteking”) creates the design of the characters.
The opening song “Saikai”, which can be heard in the trailer, comes from the Japanese musician Vaundy, who previously contributed the first ending to “Chainsaw Man” and the opening to “Sakamoto Days”.
The original manga series of the same name by Mokumoku has been published in the »Young Ace Up« magazine since August 2021. In Germany, the work is available under the title “The summer in which Hikaru died” from Altravers.

Yoshiki and Hikaru were inseparable friends in a small village. But one day an event changed everything: Hikaru was hit by a glaring light.
Since then there has been nothing as before. Hikaru has changed a lot, and Yoshiki is desperately holding the hope that his friend will be the old one again – but he begins to doubt whether the Hikaru still exists from the past.
