Despite a significant increase in demonstrations, the cinemas in Japan were hardly mastered by the crowds of the “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” premiere on yesterday’s opening day. We summarize the details below.

Tremendous crowd

After the midnight premiere of the first “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” film was completely sold out within just a few minutes, this tremendous crowd remained even over the entire opening day.

Although all cinemas had expected a very large rush, the expectations were exceeded again. The Toho Cinema Shinjuku, for example, had set record -breaking 40 performances and only reserved a total of eleven of its twelve cinemas for “Demon Slayer”, but that did not change the remarkable result: all ideas from 7:00 a.m. in the morning until 01:05 a.m. were fully booked.

But not only in Tokyo, but also in all other Japanese cities, there was a similar picture. There were also endless snakes and crowds to get new and exclusive “Demon Slayer” merchant championship before and after the premiere.

New box office record?

Accordingly, the earning result on the opening day should be correspondingly high and even if there are no official figures yet, the first estimates amount to around 1.7 billion yen (around 9.8 million euros) – an unprecedented record in Japan. “Mugen Train” played 1.26 billion yen at the time.

In this context, the overall revenue of »Mugen Train« in the amount of 40.43 billion yen (around 233 million euros) is likely to falter as soon as the film finally reaches the international audience. In Germany, however, we unfortunately have to be patient until September 18, 2025, which is certainly not easy due to the extremely good reviews and countless spoilers on the Internet.

The manga also benefits from the whole hustle and bustle, because “Demon Slayer” was able to reach a new milestone of 220 million copies sold. This means that the title is behind “One Piece”, “Doraemon”, “Golgo 13”, “Detective Conan”, “Dragon Ball” and “Naruto” in the seventh place of the best-selling manga series.
