After the brewed sale of Nickelodeon to Super RTL, Paramount is now taking hard measures and stops operating the station – at least in Austria.

Switching off in a few days

Nickelodeon Austria, the Austrian branch of the child channel from Paramount, is on the air until June 30, 2025, according to a report by TV. As early as February 1, 2025, the broadcaster ended the broadcast via satellite and has only been seen in Austria by cable or live stream in Austria.

The shutdown only affects the Austria feed, on which the program of Nickelodeon Central and Eastern Europe, which was sometimes significantly differentiated from Nickelodeon Germany by other broadcasts and programs, was transferred. One reason for the setting was not mentioned.

The free TV broadcaster started operating on June 1, 2006 and initially shared the frequency with Viva Austria until December 2010. From January 2011 to September 2014, comedy Central Austria was seen in the evening and from October 2014 to September 2021 Nicknight Austria took over the transmitter from 9:00 p.m.

Comedy Central Austria has been broadcasting every day from 8:15 p.m. since October 1, 2021. The program is transferred to two frequencies at the same time – in contrast to Germany, where the broadcast is delayed by an hour. Since Comedy Central Austria is still available as a 24-hour broadcaster, only the simultaneous transmission on the Nickelodeon Austria frequency is no longer available.

Originally, Nickelodeon Austria should continue to remain on the air after the sale of Nickelodeon Germany – but that is now just as obsolete as the German branch take over by the competitor.
