As part of an interview, Goro Miyazaki explained that at Studio Ghibli, despite the AI boom, they would be captured in traditional animation. We summarize.
Ghibli essence not reproducible
Goro Miyazaki, director at Studio Ghibli and son of Hayao Miyazaki, made the corresponding statements a few days before the big Ghibli-Ki quake, which created countless AI images in GHibli-style. The studio continues to be silent about this.
After all, Miyazaki clarified the general opinion of Studio Ghibli on the subject of “artificial intelligence” – and should therefore satisfy many fans.
Because even if Goro Miyazaki recognizes the impressive progress of the AI in any case and is also convinced that films can be fully produced with their help in a few years, the studio will continue to adhere to the traditional animation, after all “The magic of Studio Ghibli is not reproduced by any algorithm.”
This was particularly due to the fact that you can never replace your father and Toshio Suzuki. Above all, his father’s unique war experience would give his films a mixture of “sweet” and the “smell of death”. According to Miyazaki, this essence will never be able to capture a AI.
Hold on to traditional animation
In addition, he believes that anime fans will not turn to the completely AI-generated animation anyway, which clearly demonstrate the extremely bad reviews of the recently broadcast Ki-Anime “Twin Hinahima”.
Nevertheless, he sees the AI as a useful tool for both the design of ideas and for production itself, since these animators would offer more options. The doors would also open the doors to young, digitally experienced talents, which it could not imagine today to earn their livelihood with the physical act of drawing.
Due to the statements of Goro Miyazaki, it can be said calmly that the essence of Studio Ghibli with Hayao Miyazaki at the head will probably be preserved for a long time despite the continuing progress of artificial intelligence.
