\It’s been nearly six years since One Piece first introduced Rocks D. Xebec in Chapter 957, and ever since then, Rocks and his legendary pirate crew have been the topic of endless speculation. Now, nearly 200 chapters later, One Piece is finally airing all of its biggest secrets surrounding Rocks and the God Valley Incident, and it’s almost too much to take in all at once.

As if the Elbaf Arc wasn’t compelling enough already with Imu’s arrival and the Giants being turned into demons, the latest flashback is taking the Elbaf Arc to an all-new level of excitement, almost on par with the Egghead Arc. The most exciting of these flashback reveals have been about Rocks, and here’s everything One Piece has revealed as of late.

7) Rocks Tried to Recruit King Harald

Ever since their chance meeting at Mariejois, the Elbaf Arc’s flashback sees Rocks continually try to persuade King Harald into joining his crew. The first instance of this happening is Chapter 1155 when Rocks first arrives at Elbaf looking for Harald. However, Harald, who dreams of connecting Elbaf with the world, persistently denies Rocks’ offers. Even so, the relationship between Rocks and Harald remains a very interesting one, as it is clear that the two might have turned out to be close friends under different circumstances, which adds a twinge of sadness to Rocks and Harald’s clash in Chapter 1158.

6) Rocks Assembled His Crew Using Davy Back Fights

In Chapter 1155 of One Piecefans learn that Rocks assembled his crew using Davy Back fights, a long-forgotten concept first introduced in one of One Piece’s most divisive pre-timeskip arcs, Long Ring Long Land. This explains one huge mystery about the Rocks Pirates, namely, why the crew supposedly never got along. In Chapter 1159, this even results in a major betrayal from Ochoku, resulting in Shakky’s abduction and the death of Don Marlon.

5) Rocks Killed a Marine Admiral

As far as character introductions go, Rock D. Xebec makes quite a strong one in Chapter 1154 as the narrator’s box reveals that one of his feats is having killed an Admiral, that too in the Holy Land during the Reverie. The Admirals have, for the longest time, been one of the biggest threats to the Straw Hats. It’s only with the power of Gear Five that Luffy was able to subdue Kizaru on Eggghead, and it’s still unclear how well the Straw Hats would fare against the likes of Akainu or even Kuzan. However, it seems like defeating an Admiral was a piece of cake for Rocks, which goes to prove he fully lives up to the legends surrounding him.

4) Rocks Knew About and Met Imu

Another shocking revelation about Xebec from Chapter 1155 was that he not only knew about Imu’s existence but also visited Imu in the Room of Flowers during his visit to the Holy Land at the time of the Reverie. Imu’s existence is a very closely guarded secret in One Piece, one that barely anyone else is privy to outside of the Five Elders, the Holy Knights, and now the Revolutionary Army. That said, this fact greatly explains Rocks’ ambition of becoming the king of the world, as he already knew such a thing was possible through Imu’s existence and perhaps even sought to dethrone Imu.

3) Rocks is Blackbeard’s Father

One of the most unexpected revelations about Rocks during the Elbaf Arc flashback is that he was Blackbeard’s father. This revelation was accompanied by the full reveal of Rocks’s face in Chapter 1154, and even if the series hadn’t outright stated the connection between the two, it would have been easy to guess, as Rocks is the spitting image of Blackbeard, save for his spiky two-toned hair.

2) Rocks D. Xebec’s Home is God Valley

While Rocks has always been closely associated with the God Valley Incident, no one could have anticipated that God Valley was actually his homeland. This, together with the other revelation of Rocks’ clan in Chapter 1159, paints a very curious picture, especially considering the parallels to the Lunarians and how the Red Line, the Lunarians’ former home, was once called the land of the gods. Clearly, all these different clans are in some way tied to the Void Century and the conflict against the World Government, and the pieces will likely fall in place soon enough.

1) Rocks’s Real Name is Davy D. Xebec

Easily the biggest, most unexpected revelation about Rocks D. Xebec so far is that of his real name, which is Davy D. Xebec. Rocks reveals his real name only to Harald in Chapter 1159, and it’s unclear whether anyone else in One Piece, other than maybe Blackbeard, knows the truth about Rocks. So far, all fans know is that this mysterious Davy Family has descended from a legendary pirate named Davy D. Jones, who likely invented the famous Davy Back Fight. That said, One Piece’s upcoming chapters will likely reveal more about Rocks and his clan in the chapters to come, so stay tuned for more earth-shattering lore drops in the weeks to come.

One Piece is available to read on Manga Plus and Viz Media.
