In the past two days, the Music Awards Japan 2025 were awarded, in which two anime openings really cleared. We summarize.
New music award from Japan
On May 21 and 22, 2025, the Music Awards Japan took place for the first time at the Rohm Theater in Kyoto. Outstanding musicians from Japan and all over the world were awarded in over 60 categories-including areas such as vocaloid, anime songs, video game soundtracks and of course the idol culture in Japan.
For a nomination at this new award ceremony, an automated system initially determines suitable artists, songs and albums – based on data from Billboard Japan, Oricon, GfK Japan, Luminate, Usen, the Daiichi Kosho Company, the Jasrac and other sources. A jury then chooses five nominated per category, which then coordinate 5,000 experts from the music industry.
You can find an overview of all categories and their nominations on the official website of the Music Awards Japan, because as usual, we concentrate on the winners from the anime scene below.
Several awards
Yoasobi with “Idol” (“Oshi no Ko”) and Creepy Nuts with “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” (“Mashle”) were particularly successful.
For example, “Idol”, the title song of the first “Oshi NO Ko” relay, dismissed in the three categories “Best Anime Song”, “Best Music Video” and “Best Worldwide Top Hit from Japan”, while “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” was even honored eight times.
The catchy tune from “Mashle” was not only voted “Song of the Year”, but also received awards as “Best Japanese Song”, “Best Viral Song”, “Best Japanese Hip-Hop/Rap-Song”, “Best Japanese Dance Pop Song” as well as “Best Japanese song in Europe, North America and Latin America”.
“Jujutsu Kaisen” also appears among the winners, because the opening “Specialz” by King Gnu was recognized as the “Best J-Rock song” and the ending “More Than Words” by Hitsujibungaku as “Best Japanese alternative song”. “Senbonzakura” was honored by Kurousa as the “best vocaloid song”.
