Phineas and Ferb’s fifth season brings back the titular boys to once again enjoy their summer vacations on Disney’s various platforms. With the revival of the beloved animated series, co-creators Jeff “Swampy” Marsh and Dan Povenmire made sure that they were once again leading the charge in focusing on the popular protagonists. At this year’s Savannah College of Art And Design Animation Festival, we spoke with the creators about the upcoming season, season six, arriving next year and whether they could ever see Ferb and Phineas spending the majority of their time in the classroom.
In discussing the future of the series, “Swampy” got things started with, “I think we’ve figured out which characters we’re ready to kill off for sure *laughs*.” Povenmire added, “We’ll make Irving the main character. We’re just having more fun like we did with the fifth season. I think there are some episodes that will be quintessential, touchstone episodes for people. Fans will watch season six and go ‘Oh my God, this happened in this episode!’ We’re playing a lot more with the conventions of the series and how we can sort of put those on its head while still staying true to the show.”
Phineas and Ferb Go To School (Sort Of)

Dan Povenmire started the hilarious conversation about Ferb and Phineas in school, confirming that the drawing of desks is one of the toughest things for animators these days, “We started it out as a fake-out, we had people messaging us like, ‘Wait, you’re going to have them in school now??’ It is something we’ve thought about, having them in school, but we don’t want to make that show because we think it would be a very different show. We thought about it at one point, and we felt like it was going to be so fundamentally different. Plus, drawing desks is hard! Because desks are so angled and you have to look at the various rows and see their vanishing points, and it’s a pain. You’ll notice that most shows that have schools have flat tables like this one because it’s so much easier to draw flat tables. So everybody is at a biology lab with flat tables!”
Marsh chimed in hilariously by adding, “There has to be a really compelling story for us to overcome the difficulty of drawing desks.” Previously, during our conversation, the pair revealed that while they don’t have time at the moment to work on another series crossover, they have a wish list to join the previous Marvel and Star Wars crossover specials with Phineas and Ferb,
“From Lucasfilm, we actually would really like to go with Indiana Jones. Unfortunately, since we’re so busy with the series right now, we haven’t had the chance to work on any special ideas yet to pitch to Disney. The rights can still be controlled by the original owners, which can make it trickier.”
As for the sixth season, a specific release date has yet to be revealed outside of the 2026 release window. The fifth season is still ongoing at the moment, planning to release its final episode later this month. However, the current Phineas and Ferb season ends, we’re sure there will be plenty of animation fans excited to see the titular characters make a comeback, whether they are in school or in their backyard enjoying their summer vacation. Luckily, you can catch up on the misadventures of the two siblings by catching the previous seasons on Disney+ long before next year’s new episodes.
