A few months ago, researchers came across the remains of a previously unknown sea creature that was quickly named after a character from “Chainsaw Man” due to its distinctive features. We summarize.
Unknown sawtooth shark
The newly discovered species is a sawtooth shark species, which was described after teeth were found on the coast of Caldera (Chile) and in honor of its discoverer, the Chilean paleontologist Dr. Patricia Canales, which was given the name Pochitaserra Patriciacanalae.
If you take a closer look at the name, you’ll quickly realize that the first part refers to the lovable mascot Pochita from “Chainsaw Man” – a fitting choice considering the long, saw-like snout.
That’s what Dr. thought too. Martin Chavez, co-author of the study and scientific director of the Center for Environmental and Human Sciences Atacama, who justified the naming as follows: “We wanted a scientific and memorable name that connects science with current culture.”
The Pochitaserra Patriciacanalae is thought to have lived more than eight million years ago during the Miocene epoch. You can see a paleontological reconstruction below. Let us know in the comments if you would agree with the resemblance to Pochita from “Chainsaw Man”.
