In an interview, the former Crunchyroll producer Marisa Balkus revealed that her former employer had been surpassed several times in the planned series projects by Netflix. We summarize.

Outbid by Netflix

The producer Marisa Balkus has been a member of the film industry for many years and, among other things, was involved in the Oscar-winning blockbuster “The Revenant” before giving in to her great anime love in 2017 and switching to crunchyroll.

There, however, she only produced “Onyx Equinox” and would have been beaten by Netflix at the many other titles for which she would have made an offer. She cited “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch” and “Captain Laserhawk” as examples.

Actually, she didn’t want to leave Crunchyroll at all, but when Netflix suddenly looked for a manager for the then anime team, she packed the opportunity to take a crop-also because of the history:

“This is the company that surpassed me in many projects. Every time we wanted to buy a series for crunchyroll, they offered more, and we thought: ‘Again they snapped it away again!’ So it was a kind of ›If you can’t beat them, you should join them! ‘Wait.«

At Netflix, she was finally responsible for the production of the second season of “Arcane”, the second and third season of “Blood of Zeus” as well as “Devil May Cry”, “Tomb Raider: Legend of Lara Croft” and ironically also “Captain Laserhawk”.
