Purple Kiss held an interview to commemorate the release of their second single “I Miss My…” at a cafe in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 14th.
Purple Kiss, which debuted in March 2021 with the release of its first mini album “INTO VIOLET,” entered its fourth anniversary in March, entering a turning point as an idol group. On average, the agency and the idol group have a seven-year contract period, so it can be said that they have now turned the turning point.
“Although we are celebrating our 4th anniversary, our mindset remains the same as that of our 4th month,” Chaein said. “Even when I talk with the members, they are as fresh and innocent as they were back then. Nothing has changed. But now that it’s our 4th anniversary, I think we’ve spent a lot of time together. I want to continue building up our 5th and 6th anniversary with the members and fans.”
Is there any pressure that comes from the accumulation of years? “Isn’t there some kind of indicator that the world has set (for example, music records, etc.)?” Swan said. It is true that the sense of responsibility and burden increases accordingly. “I have never been worried that I have to meet those expectations,” she said honestly. “The more I do that, the more I try to keep my identity that I am constantly taking on new challenges to show our colors silently. I will continue to strive for the stage that fans want to see, both conceptually and vocalistically.”
Chaein added, “In the early days of my debut, I think I just went on stage without fear, but these days, I’m nervous. I think it’s polite to the fans to show good performances, so I try very hard not to make mistakes when dancing or singing. I think it’s natural to show full performances and sounds when you come to see us, so I’m secretly practicing a lot. I want to continue to show my skills to improve.”
There were times when the group experienced a slump that they couldn’t tell others about.
“We made our debut during the pandemic, so we had fewer opportunities to meet the public and fans in person,” Swan said. Then, the public broadcasting began in the second year of debut, and they got an opportunity to have an open fan signing event. I was worried that the fans might be disappointed to see me in person. Fortunately, I heard ‘I love you’ from the fans, and they cheered listening to the song. I was so relieved and motivated to hear such comments, saying, “I will also cheer for Purple Kiss in the future.” Chaein confessed, “I think I overcame the moment when I almost experienced a slump with the vitality of the fans.” She said, “We experienced a slump when debuting. We prepared hard and debuted, but we couldn’t meet the fans. That’s why I didn’t enjoy the fifth album (Cabin Fever, released in February 2023). Fortunately, from then on, I was able to meet with the fans and build bonds with them, and overcome a lot as the members became stronger. I’m so happy now.”
In the case of Dosie, “I personally like to monitor past stage videos, but I’ve been looking for them a lot since my debut. But the more I watched it, more regrets are left. All I felt was, ‘I should have done this at this time’ and ‘I should have done better.’ After monitoring for four years, I realized at some point that the stage at that time would not come again, and that I would not meet the audience at that time again. It changed to the idea that we should not leave regrets every moment. So I will try to make only happy memories without regretting this activity,” she said, adding that she has now cleared away all of the slumps at the beginning of her debut.
Meanwhile, “I Miss My…” is an album that contains the message that true happiness exists at this moment and in the emotions surrounding me. It is a new album released by Purple Kiss in about nine months since “HEADWAY,” which was released in October last year, and sings about the importance of what exists here and now.
The album title “I Miss My…” contains the hope that each listener will think of the precious feelings or existence they have forgotten and fill the gap by themselves. The title song “DOREMI” represents the sincerity of these members, and the support to face honest emotions and true selves through the spell “DOREMI” and gain realization of the essence of happiness.
Purple Kiss’s new album, “I Miss My…” was released on various music sites at 6 p.m. on the 16th.
