LEIPZIG (dpa-AFX) – Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is relaxed about the vote in the Bundesrat on the planned citizens’ allowance. It might not work the first time, but then the mediation committee would have to make an effort, said Scholz on Friday evening at a panel discussion in the “Leipziger Volkszeitung”.

When asked whether the citizen’s income made work less attractive, as criticized by the Union, Scholz replied: “That’s really complete nonsense.” Citizens’ income is a question of justice for everyone. It is intended to replace Hartz IV.

The Bundestag had approved the project on Thursday with a majority of the SPD, Greens and FDP. However, the approval of the Bundesrat is also required. On Monday, the state chamber will deal with the social reform in a special session. The Union had announced that it would block the project there./bz/DP/he
