Spy x Family Season 3 is finally out, marking the series’ return nearly two years later. This season is set for a total of 13 episodes, following the new adventures of the fake family, Loid, Anya, and Yor, as they struggle to hide their true identities from one another while maintaining peace. The story originally began with Loid Forger, the enigmatic spy tasked with creating this family as part of his larger mission to preserve peace between two rival nations. Yet, despite being the central figure of the series, very little is actually known about Loid himself.

Across the first two seasons, which spanned 37 episodes, the anime offered no real clues about Loid’s origins. Season 3, however, is set to change that. A newly revealed teaser confirms that starting from Episode 2 of this season, the series will finally delve into Loid’s past. At first glance, the teaser suggests a tragic backstory, while also confirming it will shed light on what shaped Loid into the elusive spy known as “Twilight.” From what has been shown, it appears Loid’s past will unfold over an extended period, becoming the next major arc of the anime.

Spy x Family Season 3 Is Finally Going To Explore Twilight’s Past

The new teaser for the anime’s next major event poses the central question: “What made the boy become Twilight?” Highlighting this theme, the teaser shows a young Loid playing pretend war and asking a man, possibly his father, whether wars really happen. The tone quickly shifts to tragedy as Loid witnesses the destruction of his hometown, later revealed in the teaser to be called Luwen. In another scene, he clings to his mother, crying out and expressing his wish to return home. Several other frames emphasize how Loid’s once peaceful childhood was shattered, leaving him a refugee of war and setting the foundation for his transformation. It becomes clear that Loid’s journey toward becoming the enigmatic spy began with this traumatic event.

Still, the teaser doesn’t reveal how Loid ultimately found the chance to walk the path of a spy. This suggests the series will fully explore his tragic past and gradual transformation into Twilight, likely spanning at least a few episodes. Given the hints that young Loid enjoyed pretending to be at war, it seems possible he may have joined the Westalian army, a step that could have led to his eventual rise as a spy. The release of this teaser immediately after the premiere of Spy x Family Season 3’s first episode underscores its importance as a pivotal event. With this arc set to finally explore Loid’s long-anticipated past, fans may be about to witness the series’ most tragic backstory yet.
