Steinmeier without a mask on the train – the Federal President hopes for understanding news
NEUSTRELITZ / BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier hopes that the citizens will understand because of a photo that shows him without a mask while traveling on a Deutsche Bahn train. Steinmeier told journalists on Thursday that he did not wear the FFP2 mask for about 40 seconds on the train ride on Tuesday because a short video was shot that affected the announcement of the trip to Neustrelitz. The announcer had previously not been understood with a mask.
On the train journey from Berlin to Neustrelitz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, he and everyone else in the delegation would otherwise have worn mouth and nose protection. The announcer lasted 30 seconds. There were five seconds before and after that. “I ask for your understanding and I’m sure many understand that too,” said the Federal President at a meeting with the Slovenian President Borut Pahor.
He also supports all Deutsche Bahn measures to contain the corona pandemic, said the Federal President. Steinmeier had relocated his office to Neustrelitz for two and a half days for his “Local Time” series and had taken the train there.
The official photo showing him studying the files was published on his website and the video on his Instagram account. The short message service Twitter then pointed out that masks were compulsory on trains. The picture showing Steinmeier without a mask caused a lot of criticism on social media./www/DP/ngu
