The Detective is Already Dead Season 2 revealed the first new key visual, along with a 2026 release date. The sequel for the anime was announced back in July 2022, with the first ‘super teaser’ visual coming on September 1, 2024, and also featuring Siesta.

The first season of the anime ended on September 19, 2021, after a total of 12 episodes. Manabu Kurihara directed it at studio ENGI. The main cast consists of:

The Detective is Already Dead is a Japanese light novel series written by Nigozyu and illustrated by Umibozu. Media Factory started publishing the series in November 2019, with 12 volumes released as of November 2024. Volume 13 is set to release in Japan on July 25, 2025. The series also has 2 manga adaptation: one by Mugiko (2020-2023) and one by Poni (2021-2022).

Yen Press licensed The Detective is Already Dead light novel series in English. Crunchyroll streams the anime, describing the story:
After thwarting a hijacking with beautiful, silver-haired detective Siesta, Kimihiko leads a life of globe-trotting and crime-solving—until Siesta dies. A year later, a new case will open old wounds as it threads murder, conspiracy, and his dead partner!
